The following extracts from the Southern Daily Echo (13/6/00) explain how Westbury House B&B and subsequently October Cottage (Self Catering) came about:

"AN electrical inspector from Hampshire who was forced to retire after an accident at work is now well on his way to opening a bed and breakfast business - thanks to a training scheme run by the Southern Tourist Board in partnership with Brockenhurst College and the Hampshire Tourism Training Partnership.

Les Williams, who signed up for this innovative scheme, is now planning to open his B&B this month.

Following his accident Mr Williams decided on a career change and contacted the Southern Tourist Board about opening a B&B.

Mr Williams has now converted his house to provide accommodation for six, and relandscaped his garden. And to ensure that he is fully trained in breakfasts a group of builders has been arriving early each morning for breakfast."
